What Popsicle Flavor Are You?

Saw this in blogthings and thought that it's perfect for the name of my blog. So I took the test. Here's the result:

You Are a Chocolate Flavored Popsicle

You are hedonistic. For you, summer is all about indulging your five senses.

Some people may call you spoiled, but your simply the type of person who knows what they want.

You have sophisticated tastes. You like sweet things as much as the next person, but you don't like cheap treats.

You're much more drawn to the dramatic in all aspects of life - including dramatic desserts.

Not quite sure I agree with the "but does not like cheap treats". Me? I am so low maintenance. :)

Haw Haw de Carabao

I remember pretending to be receiving holy communion (don't tell father..) whenever my friend would give me some Haw Flakes. Sometimes we even fall in line just to have some of these yummy candy. But is it a candy or is it something else?

As I was writing this entry, it dawned on me that I have no idea what these Haw Flakes are made of. As per my research on the internet, specifically Wikipedia, Haw Flakes are made from the fruit named Chinese Hawthorn which is a bright red fruit about 1.5 inches in diameter. According to research, the fruit was said to show anti-tumor activities on the skin which is great for skin cancer patients. However, I also found out that Haw Flakes coming from China were seized and banned by the US Food and Drug Administration because it contains a red dye called Ponceau 4R. This dye is said to induce allergic reactions and may intensify asthma symptoms.

Ok... Now we know. Problem is, do you still want to eat Haw Flakes after knowing that? I think I would if it doesn't contain Ponceau 4R. :)

Barbie Doll

This I only found out just now that Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts. Pang soap opera ang pangalan eh?! I wasn't really an avid collector of Barbie and if memory serves me right, I think I only had 3 or 4 Barbie dolls. I was more into G.I Joe action figures back then as they have more cooler accessories. Unlike my other friends back then, their room is filled with a whole lot of Barbie dolls with matching accessories. I'll make a different post this everyone.

Barbie
has always been referenced to pop culture. It is probable that there is not a girl who does not know Barbie. We were all content with the limited movement of that doll and was contented in brushing her hair, changing her clothes, shoes and accessories.

Among the three or four that I had, this is the only one that I found in storage. Obviously she wasn't cared for. She definitely needs to stay for a day or two in the spa to get that gorgeous glow again. LOL! Anyway, I forgot what kind of Barbie this is. Can anyone tell me?

"Pop" the Magic Dragon

Population Culture or more commonly known as Pop Culture is something constant. It varies but it is constant. But what does it really mean? According to Wikipedia, "This is often defined or determined by the mass media. Popular culture is deemed as what is popular within the social context — that of which is most strongly represented by what is perceived to be popularly accepted among society... It can include any number of practices, including those pertaining to cooking, clothing, consumption, mass media and the many facets of entertainment such as sports and literature."

For me pop culture is something that is constant. It may vary but it is still constant. It also depicts a certain identity in the sense that it suggests the kind of people that lived in that kind of culture. It is not just about the music, clothes, literature etc that are popular at that time but the manner in which these people lived and managed their lives.

It is quite interesting actually. My experience the other day in the mall inspired me to create this blog (my 4th!). You see, I was doing some window shopping when I saw a swarm of people in this one store. I thought there was a major sale but it turns out that they were just going gaga over some flip flops. Don't get me wrong I love them too but having four pairs is enough for me. This got me thinking and after a day, "tada!" out came Wapsicle Popsicle.

So I am hoping to share what I have seen in the three decades of my existence. I wish to amuse (those that are in my generation), inform (those that were still unborn at that time) and probably annoy (those who are in denial.. LOL.. kidding!) some that may have had a bad encounter related to pop culture.
